I prefer browning meats in a larger pan on the stove.  There is not enough surface area in the crock pot bottom to do this properly.  So for me to have a regular old Crock Pot (as I described above) is just fine.  I brown on the stove then place the food into the Crock Pot.  I know this is an inconvenience for some.

Yup, gives me a chance to use the large rectangular electric frypan I've had for years.  Another kitchen item I HAD to have and rarely use!  LOL

@NicksmomESQ  I think I have the same one from QVC, I just couldn't remember how long I've had it.  Didn't they send out a 2nd crock because the first one had a problem with it?

I think for @Jordan2  a CrockPot brand would be a good first buy..  They usually have good buys at Target.  I purchased a 2 qt size there for about $10 several years ago.

I just bought a 4qt programmable Crock Pot on Target's website. It was $30.00, I have the Red Card, I saved 5% and they also have something Target Circle which offered 10% off more. It ended up costing me $28.00. I don't think I could do better elsewhere, it will be the perfect size for me and should be good for what I'll use it for.

I went on Amazon and bought two of the least expensive models.  One small and one larger. (I don't know the capacity.) They are exactly the same thing that we used to call crockpots.  Settings are off / high / low / warm.  Nothing fancy.   

Whatever you buy - get slow cooker liners - otherwise clean-up is a really big pain!

Mine is the "Crock Pot" brand that I got at my local Meijer about 7 or 8 years ago.  I paid right at $30.00 for it.  It's at least a 6 quart and is oval which was really nice this year for cooking my Turkey Breast.

Although my removable pot is fairly easy to clean, I finally found the crock pot liners last summer and they make clean up even more easy than w/out one.
