Slicing block cheese - What do you use?

I had a block of cheese and was going to make grilled cheese sandwiches tonight . My cheese slicer from long ago is broken and I had a devil of a time trying to use a knife to makes slices from that block of cheese. What do you use? Thanks

Wow I always use a knife...maybe try a serrated one if your chefs knife won't do it

Was it sticking? Cause if that was the problem maybe coating with PAM might help...

Try grating the cheese instead. Hard to cut a block of cheese with a knife. Or try this:

cheese knife

Or try this: Wire cheese slicer

I have a knife from Cutco that is made for this, and I use it constantly. It has holes in the middle.

I always grate cheese for grilled cheese sandwiches. It melts faster.

My cheese slicer broke too. It was a wire and worked very slick. My new cheese slicer really only shaves everything too thin. The last few times I used a vegetable carrot slicer that it thick and wavy. It really does a good job but the cuts are wavy yet can be uniform. It probably would make good grilled cheese sandwich. I also use it for cubing cheese for salads.

I've never had or seen what I consider to be a satisfactory cheese slicer. The wire ones do the best job but they don't last long.
