Simplehuman Dual-Recycle/Garbage Trash can

Hi,

I'm looking for one that's either- slim which opens at the end, or front opening. Either style lid can be step, touch, sensor, or push lever at lid level.

We don't have a ton of recycle or trash, it's just us two. However, if the can is really good but more than we need, and fit's into the area, I'd be willing to buy it.

I would like 2 hard liner buckets. I know some of the cans only have the bag inside, except for the recycle bins.

I'm concerned about mice and see there's a bag holder, and other areas of possible holes where mice, bugs get into.

I thought I could tape from the inside if possible, and not use the bag dispenser, taping that up as well.

However, if there isn't a bottom then mice can get into the bags. Is there a sealed bottom?

I'm interest in the Butterfly lid as it will fit under my counter overhang, otherwise I'll consider their other models.

Anyone have one of these?

I don't have one but have a friend who does.  Yes, there is a bottom.  I would like to have one but am debating whether I'm willing to pay that much!

@skittles2 - Okay, this is not exactly what you're asking for, but after doing a lot of investigation a couple years ago, I ended up buying two of the "iTouchless SoftStep 13.2 Gallon Step Trash Can with Odor Filter System, Stainless Steel" on Amazon (that's only part of the long title; you can also search for ASIN B0733Z42S2) instead of trying to get a combined garbage/recycling can or any can with a sensor. There were just too many hassles involved for what should be a simple, practical item. (Note: If you visit the item page described above, there are several different colors and styles available, including a dual-can unit, and everything is highly rated.)

It's silly to say, but we LOVE our garbage cans, and after using them a few times during visits to my home, my sister and one of my friends purchased the same ones. They are easy to use, easy to clean, don't require any special bags or any batteries, and actually look fairly stylish in the kitchen even though they have to be out in the open against a side wall. I would buy them again in a heartbeat. (And if you do get separate cans and want to label them, check out ASIN B072162MW4 for helpful yet discreet decals to attach—we chose the extra small silver metallic for the cans referenced here but my sister preferred the small white version.)

Good luck with your quest!  Smiley Happy

ETA: This can does have a hard liner bucket and a full bottom (there are lots of good photos in the item listing) and the bonus of the little odor filter built into the underside of the lid has made more of a difference than I expected. Another thing I appreciate about this can is that the lid is able to stay completely open, which sometimes isn't an option with step/pedal cans.

@Tadaki @loriqvc

Thanks to you both.

I saw iTouchless but didn't peruse the brand. I will now!

I def want one can w/ recycle & garbage. I don't want 2 separate cans because one would need to go on a different wall. Simplehuman has a great warranty, 5  and 10yrs.

Off to see itouchless!!

@loriqvc

p.s. IT HAS BEEN A QUESTCat Frustrated

Unbelievable how much time I'm spending researching a trash can. It has to fit the space in h x w and depth, the lid has to clear counter overhang, it cannot jut out too far or we'll have to veer around it, or stub toes, or back into from the fridge and of course spill what we just retrieved from fridge...AACK!

@skittles2 - I definitely remember all of that measuring and research! Hopefully, you'll find just the right option for your space.

@loriqvc

I decided on Simplehuman Dual Can. I never thought I'd spend that much on a trash can. However, I needed certain things: fit in a certain space, end operation; lower lid clearance; recycle and trash- I can't have 2 receptacles-' slim profile; steel; good warranty- 10yrs; good customer service.

Other cans meeting some of those needs were $100+, and warranties were often up to a year, still not meeting crucial needs. So, I went with SH.

🤞

This is the one I have. It's held up well for the past several years. I wish the compartments were bigger, though.

Re: Simplehuman Dual-Recycle/Garbage Trash can

@skittles2 Believe we have a larger version of the one you are considering. The cans/hard liners have bottoms. Never had any bug or mice problem with it, and I think we've had it for nearly 10 years. Don't quite understand the bug/mice worry. Do you have bug/mice problems now? Simplehuman isn't a bad company, just pricey. Look for customer returns to save some money -- or sales/discounts at stores like Container Store. If you're interested in this brand, you have to price shop and monitor price drops daily (imo). Would we buy simplehuman again? Probably not. In fact, we opted for a Joseph Joseph for our other house. We prefer Joseph Joseph's functionality. Being a European company, Joseph Joseph seems to take space and function to heart.

Would strongly advise avoiding the sensor/touchless ones. Have had friends and seen influencers where the sensor fails, and then they're left with a can that they paid a lot for that doesn't function quite right.

Re: Simplehuman Dual-Recycle/Garbage Trash can

In case anyone happens to be interested in the iTouchless cans I recommended in this thread, they just went on sale at home.woot.com for $55.99. I wish I'd been able to get my cans for that price!

(And if you're not familiar with Woot, it is owned by Amazon, so Prime members get free shipping and there are all kinds of great deals on their website that change daily.)
