I know I read this somewhere in one of the forums about Samsung having problems with exploding washers.

Just spoke with a repair man (he is repairing my dryer right now). 

He said that is true. From what he was explaining to me, the bolt that holds the washer drum in the washer machine are breaking apart and the the washer causing the drum to shift and explode the washer machine.

Repair guy wasn't sure if a repair was in place for these bolts. He was saying they are getting updates on repairs for these type of machines

A friend in my office says she has that Samsung machine.  She doesn't have a basement, so the thing is on her main floor.  I sure would be nervous about doing my laundry!

I thought it was either the battery or charger on the cell phone that was blowing up.

Yeah, my understanding was that it was clearly stated to be the battery - with the phone issue.

My washer & dryer are kind of old, so I don't know - maybe they have some kind of battery in them now?

My understanding on the Samsung "Exploding" washers is not the kind of explosion caused by battery but like said is the drum coming free from the bolts holding it ......causing it to spin out of control and "bang" itself apart. You know how a washer sounds when is off balance so you can imagine it sounds as if it is exploding. I know would scare the "stuffing" outa me LOL. I just got a new washer/dryer and am thankful I opted for the old fashioned trusty no frills style speed queen.

I too bought a speed queen washer 1 yr ago the 8th of october.

I got the no frills washer. Regular turn knob, has my regular wash and gentle wash and double rinse, all that i need.  

I do remember the only item the sales person told me to wash use HE LAUNDRY SOAP.  I use  my HE pods. 

I love my speed queen washer.

@viva923 very nice! I bought the same washer as you did.....no frills turn knob and only a few settings. Dont ya love the fact you can adjust the water level? I hated my former "water saver" washer that didnt put enough water in and my clothes came out dirty, stinky and half dry!!! I love the Speed Queen Dryer too! Made in USA and they only do one thing (the company) and do it well!

Would it be best to use the pods in the speed queen?

It's the lithium battery that's causing the problem with Samsung cell phones.  Washing machines don't have batteries.  It's the braces for the tub that are breaking.  Until they get a fix, Samsung recommends doing heavy loads on the gentle cycle.
