I'm so surprised that this material seems to be popular now.  

 

When I was growing up poor, it was the only kind of dishes that we poor people could afford to have.   I hated it.

 

I just don't see it as a viable material for dishes and other kitchen pieces.  If you want light, go for Corelle.  I think it's much more integrous.   I don't have Corelle dishes (although I did when I was a very young adult), but I have a couple of large bowls in Corelleware and they last forever.

@OnlyShopsOnline Thx for your post. I had no idea regarding leaching/chemicals until I Googled it. I will be returning the bowl set I bought before I open it. I guess glass is the best bet but I need some light weight bowls with lids.
