Salt blocks, plates, bricks?

Has anyone used one of these to cook or prepare food?

I like the idea, and actually bought a beautiful slab to use for hors d'ouvres (to serve), but I'm not experienced in using these salt products.

Anyone have any favorite uses? If so, have you been pleased with the results? Have you found the food to be too salty?
