I'm in California, where would I find the dried beef?

I think dried beef is next to the Spam and the canned meats. In little clear jars.

I always buy it by the sandwich meat. It's usually in a plastic ziploc. I think the brand is Buddig. I've never tried the jarred stuff.

Hormel or Armour used to have it in a foil bag. Usually where the canned meats like deviled ham and Vienna sausage are found. Our butcher shop makes their own, too.

If you buy the jarred kind just make sure to rinse it well to remove the salt. Otherwise, it will be too salty. I put it in a bowl of cold water, swish it around and lay the pieces over the edge of a colander to dry. Or you can lay them on paper towels and blot them dry.

That's the way I've seen and purchased it as well. It's a short glass jar with a metal top. The beef had been sliced very thinly in small sheets and is stacked vertically in the jar.

It makes an occasional good supper with a salad.

I have found it in different places in different stores. Learned a long time ago to ask at the customer service desk if I can not find something. It amazes me that many times the desk people end up calling on one of the people that stock the shelves to find out where something is at yet if you ask one of the people working on the shelf stock they act like they are not employees of the store.

Stouffers makes a good SOS in the red box. Can't think what they call it, pretty sure its not SOS.
