In the kitchen with dv he used a phrase "right sizing" in connection with people downsizing their homes, when family members move on with their lives. Is this a new phrase or did David just do what he was told?

Not a new word. Often used in business as in right sizing the work force.

We use it frequently at work when my stores are being remodeled. Sometimes product mix changes and one area needs more room and others need less.

With more than 40% of Millenials moving back in with parents for various reasons, "right sizing" isn't always connected to downsizing.
It's tough out there.

from Forbes
Rightsizing is the process of restructuring a business to meet new objections and increase efficiencies. In most cases, it involves reducing your workforce, reorganizing your management team and hiring new talent.
