Anyone have a recipe for making a small amount in the microwave? I only cook 2/3 of a cup at a time.

IMO, microwaves never do rice well.  Coming from someone who loves rice and loves her microwave.

I have one like this but when I use it, since the lid just sits on top, it spits liquid all over the counter. I have draped a dish towel over it but I worry about the heat. I finally found a great way to make good rice stove top in a sauce pan. I wanted a good rice cooker where the lid locks but they're more than I have at this time.

I have a Tiger rice cooker.  A friend picked up for me years ago, she used to own a Chinese restaurant.  Not cheap, but it's awesome.

We've had several rice cookers over the 41 years we've been married. Two years ago our Son gave us a Zorishi cooker for Christmas; it always makes the best rice!

Just like @granddi , I purchased the 6 cup, next to the smallest Black & Decker rice cooker on Amazon.  I got the one that was listed as not new and it was brand new when I got it.  It was in a fully sealed unopened box, and it was about $15, about $7-8 less that a new one.

If you go on YouTube there are a lot of videos of people cooking meals in a rice cooker.  I have gotten a lot of ideas and am enjoying the cooker.  It is just the right size for me, as I live alone.  the smallest one would be too small as it wouldn't leave enough room for expansion as the food cooks.  You might get boil overs.
