I've bought the little knife sharpeners QVC sells that suction themselves to the counter (they're kind of OK), but the I use most has a handle and three channels through which to draw the knife blade. It's strictly manual. It works pretty well.
Does anyone think it's worthwhile to graduate to an electric sharpener?

I have one like you which I love, but I think I need a new one and am looking for the same one as that. I don't want and electric one.

NO - - I have both - electric one built in my electric can opener - and it's the pits. Strange angle - not secure to the counter top - can slip and slide - have to hold on to the opener. I have QVC's small version and that baby CAN NOT move - much safer.

My dear Dad had a thing about sharp knives - he was meat cutter. He always used one of those hand held knife sharpeners made of stainless steele (I think). He gave me 2 of them and they are the best. I should use them more often but sometimes rely on that little QVC knife sharpener that has a suction cup to attach to the counter. It works fine - my dad would have a fit!

@CLEM Mine looks a little bit like this one but not exactly. QVC no longer has it, but amazon has something similar. (At least I think I may have ordered one similar to this from QVC, along with those suctiony ones which I don't like as much since they have only one slot.)

I like the little one that sticks to your counter. It works well and is convenient. I’ve had my knives professionally sharpened and the results aren’t appreciably better than with this little tool.

I have used a pull-through (the kind attached to a card at the grocery store) for about 40 years.

@GingerPeach Yes, mine looks similar but I got it from the Food Network about 5-6 years ago. It's a Chef's Choice one. Perhaps they still have it, but I saw one similar to this on Amazon and it is also a Chef's Choice. I like the handle and the fact that it doesn't have suction cups.
I will get one after the cut-off date of my credit card next month.

Thanks, @CLEM
Mine is still working fine even after several years. I will find something similar when it comes time to replace it.
Happy sharpening!

I have a Chef's Choice Trizor XV that I like very much.
I got mine on Amazon years ago. It will last me forever and does an outstanding job.
