RangeMate - Preheat (or not) answer

Got my answer from RangeMate whether to preheat this grill pan or not, and how ....

Their reply -

Yes, it is ok to preheat with the Rangemate empty with the lid on. You need to do this for some dishes.
For the Rice Crispies, for example, I preheat the pan 5 minutes and pull it out and then it is hot enough to melt the butter and marshmallows. Just be careful not to heat it too long as the grill inside gets really hot and always keep the lid on when heating it up.

You leave it dry when preheating, and then put everything you need after.

We recommend not preheating over 5-6 minutes tops as it gets really hot inside the grill and be careful when taking it out of the microwave.

Thank you for checking on this for those of us who bought the RangeMate. I was confused about whether or not I could preheat. Good to know that the company which makes it says that it can be done and to keep the cover on when we do preheat.

Have you made many things using the product? I have mine sitting here in the box and I forget to plan a meal around it. I am going to have the oven on tonight for some country-style BBQ pork ribs and baked potatoes. I am tired of potato salad and other side salads. Looking forward to a hot meal! sue-p

Hi Sue, I was confused about the preheating, too. For some dishes like the Rice Krispie treats, you do. I suppose if you've tried meat in it and it didn't brown or have grill marks then you might try preheating it next time. Otherwise, I don't see a reason to preheat it. I've made grilled vegetables in it a few times without preheating it, using just a little olive oil and they've come out browned and with grill marks, so good. And that grilled cheese with tomato sandwich comes out great just by buttering both sides of the bread. Tonight I'm trying chicken, not going to preheat it, and more grilled vegetables, love them!

Oh, I thought it was important that RangeMate said if you're going to preheat it, do it dry with the cover on, and no longer than 5 min.

Thanks for this info! I was confused as well & preheated when grilling sausage (precooked). I preheated for just one minute & it was hot! When I put the sausage on, it was sizzling. Browned nicely too. Made some flan in the muffin pans and of course didn't preheat. So, just some recipes, you're right.
