I just got my new TSV Kitchen Aid 4.5 quart stand mixer last week, and did a glowing review on it, and then was doing the dishes Saturday night and noticed the left hand side of the stand mixer head had three vertical scratches on the paint. It was underneath the glossy clear coat but definitely there. I could feel the scratches under the clear glossy finish with my fingers. I was very disheartened because a few other people had reported the same things on their brand new mixers. So I called Kitchen Aid this morning and they are shipping a brand new mixer to me to replace it. Being that this TSV was totally sold out, I could not exchange it with QVC to get another one, and I knew if I sent it back, I could not get the same deal with all the extras, and free shipping, and the price had gone up. So when I called this morning, the Kitchen Aid people were great. No problem at all replacing it. All I did was give her the model number and serial number of the mixer, and that was it. So if anyone else has discovered any problems with their brand new KA TSV mixer from March 30th, please call Kitchen Aid and get a new one. I was surprised that many of them seemed to have similar scratches, and also the locking mechanism not being alright either. Mine was fine but I went back and read the reviews tonight.
I also own the pro 500, 325 watt, 5 quart bowl lift model, and my husband went to adjust the beater clearance for me, and when he laid it down on the back, it leaked brown oil out of the mixer. I had seen Kitchen Aid grease on Ebay and wondered why many people purchased it. Apparently, when you do not use your KA stand mixer enough, or over work the unit constantly the grease that keeps the gears working perfectly separates, and must be redone. We watched a video on repairing the grease and the repair tech said, "bake, bake, bake! Don't let your KA mixer go unused, and use it every week and bake a couple of things." It is the only way to prevent this from happening to KA mixers. THAT was not something they ever have said when selling the KA stand mixers, but they could do it in a positive manner when they write the Kitchen Aid stand mixer manuals-- "Please be sure you use your mixer on a regular basis because the grease can break down if you let the mixer sit for extended periods of time." So be sure to use your mixer on a weekly basis. I usually do but last year was not well so did not use it as much, and it leaked on Saturday. My husband is going to do the grease for me and got the instruction video on the internet. I do not want to mail that big monster in for the repair.

KA is the best, I had an issue with mine years ago, they sent me a new one, packed up the old one and put it in the box and returned it, no problem.
Glad everything worked out.
