Questions on buffet servers?

I have been considering the purchase of one of the buffet servers for a couple yrs, then hubby saw them and suggested that we buy one. He likes the less expensive, great sale at Penneys that just keep dish warm. I'm thinking for 10 or 20 dollars more the crockpot type. We already have 2 crockpots so perhaps he is right. I will loan to my DIL also.
