Question on changes to lock and lock sets?

love most of lock and lock items..very good quality.  However, i have purchased a few sets lately that don't have the 1 inch reinforced rim along the top of the containers.  Why are they making this change?  

When you try to lock the items, the side indents slightly and makes the lid  and seal uneven.  That doesnt happen on  the rimmed containers at all. 

anyone know?

Geez I never noticed the difference?  I am going to look at mine now!!  I have found it more difficult to get my lids on and snapped down.  I attribute that to my always racing around, but maybe not?
