Question about steamer accessory for Instant Pot

Well here I am again. Now that I've decided to go ahead and buy the Instant Pot TSV, I find that I have a question about which steamer accessory I'd like to get to use in it. One option is a metal container that has holes in the bottom (no lid) and comes with an optional 3-part divider. The other option is a 2-piece stackable set that comes with a lid and handles to lift it out (no holes). My question is whether or not you need to have the holes in the bottom in order to steam. Perhaps you don't because it's used in a pressure cooker--I really don't know. Sorry to be so dumb about this, but I don't really cook. I'm hoping to start doing so more with this IP. Thanks for any help.

Re: Question about steamer accessory for Instant Pot

I am not a cook and don't know about all these kitchen appliances. I do have a crock pot, but don't use it often.

I have no idea the difference in a Hot Pot and a Pressure Cooker. Could someone explain to me what the difference is?

I have always been afraid of pressure cookers, and don't want something that could blow up!

Thanks for any help.

Re: Question about steamer accessory for Instant Pot

@qualityshopper  For steaming, you need holes in the bottom.  I actually got a basket on Amazon.

Hatrigo Instant Pot Accessories 6 qt Steamer Basket [3qt 8qt available], Fits InstaPot Pressure Cooker, Insta Pot Ultra Egg Basket w/Silicone Handle and Non-Slip Legs (Instant Pot 6 Quart)

It's by Hatrigo and has lots of 5 star reviews.  I love it.

Re: Question about steamer accessory for Instant Pot

@CLEM--I saw this one, but I think what I'm looking for is a smaller one that can be put on top of food you would have in the bottom of the IP. For example, say I have chicken cooking in the bottom and I don't want my veggies mixed in. If I have a smaller one, I could put that above the chicken so that both could cook at the same time but separate. I don't know, maybe that's not the best way to do it. As I said, I don't really cook.

Cook's Essentials 4 pc. Silicone Pressure Cooker Inserts - K42922

@qualityshopper  these would be good.  They are on QVC.  Just type in pressure cooker accessories and they will pop up.  They are silicon.

Re: Question about steamer accessory for Instant Pot

@qualityshopper  Chicken and veggies probaby won't be cooking at the same time in a pressure cooker anyway unless they are in a soup or stew.  The veggies would be mush.

Re: Question about steamer accessory for Instant Pot

@qualityshopper--go to AMZ and check out the accessories for the IP--I got mine there for no shipping $ and in 2 days. I have the metal, double thing that has no holes in it--wondering if its for baking--will have to try it out.

Re: Question about steamer accessory for Instant Pot

the stainless basket shown also comes in a double style. and the handles do not get hot, so easy to remove food.

I have a more 'solid' stainless steamer 'pot' that works well for single items.
