Question about new Instant Pot

I received my new Instant Pot yesterday and am currently doing the steam test.  I set the timer to 2 minutes.  It started, the little button popped up and then it started to count down.  That was about 25 minutes ago.  Now that much later the timer reads that there are 1:37 minutes left.  That doesn't make much sense to me.  But I had never used the steamer function on my old pressure cooker.

Can someone please tell me if this is normal? when steaming?

Re: Question about new Instant Pot

It's now 22 minutes later and the timer has moved to 1:13 min left.

Re: Question about new Instant Pot

It takes the pot about 10 min to get up to pressure....after that it will begin the countdown and then you have to wait for the pressure to release. There are many blogs online that answer questions and troubleshoot.I think one is called potheads.

@dex  Thanks for your reply.  I know about the time it needs to come up to pressure.  But it shouldn't take that long to count down to 0 from 2 minutes.

However, I may have solved the problem.  I used the preset time and it showed 2.00 so I assumed that this was preset to 2 minutes.  But I think it was 2 hours.   I just canceled and re-set the timer to 0.02 setting my kitchen timer at the same time.  And that seems to have solved the problem.  Can't imagine why the steamer function was preset to 2 hours.

I will try to make pea soup a little later and see what happens.

@CLEM I hope your pea soup comes out great.  Whenever I would buy a bone in ham I always bought a bag of dried peas to make soup, yum!

Re: Question about new Instant Pot

@CLEM I was wondering how your soup was going.I forgot to mention that while my son was learning how to use his instant pot it kept stopping saying that something was burning. We found out that your liquid needs to be placed in before ingredients and that you don't stir.

@momtochloe @dex  Thanks for checking in.    My soup came out great.  I had a ham hook so it was quite flavorful.  I used one of Meredith's recipes  so I knew what to expect (had done it before).  It turned out just fine.  The pressure cooker function was easy to use and I didn't use their preset button.   I wonder what the preset time will be for slow cooking; perhaps instead of 7 hours it will be 7 days. (just kidding).

But that pot is really very heavy.  The pot alone is quite hefty.

Re: Question about new Instant Pot

If that Curtis Stone ever comes out with a pressure cooker, I'll snap it up so fast.  I know his inner pot at least would be very light (I think).

Re: Question about new Instant Pot

Sounds like my clothes dryer.  It keeps changing its mind about how much time it still needs.  Aren't electronic devices wonderful?
