Question about foods sticking.

Hey everyone. I have listened to the presentations of the TT items off and on all day bc we're snowed in! I've heard more than once from Tara and from callers that nothing sticks..you don't have to use butters, oils or added fats. I have several TT pieces and I love them. However, I have to use Baker's Secret or oil in order for my foods to not stick. Hence my question to you all....if there's anyone who actually uses their pieces w/o spraying them and doesn't have any problems w/foods sticking, could you please share your secret? I would really like to know because I remember baking things twice early on when I first started collecting and both items stuck terribly. Thanks in advance.

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I'm a big TT fan, but Tara does herself and her company a big disservice by continually repeating "no added fats oils or butters needed.....naturally nonstick".

Most everyone who owns and uses this line, as well as any other ceramic or stoneware, will admit to having to use spray or "greasing" the pan when certain things are made. I know many on FB like Bakers Joy, but I just use good old fashioned butter when baking.

If I'm making something like Tater Tot casserole, or a lasagna, I don't need to worry, because there seems to be enough fat and liquid to make it non stick. If I'm baking anything, I spray or grease. Just have to, I don't think there is any way around it.

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I have tried baking both ways. So far when using my bread pans for banana bread it is better for me to not use any spray. When I did the bread stuck .... When I did not I only had a haze which wiped right off. I recently made brownies which were very sticky and they scooped out easily with no spray. I have not had any problems with casseroles or meats when not spraying. I think the key is to not let them set too long .... I tend to take my breads out after 10 minutes or so and I do use a butter knife around the edges.

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I use a small amount of oil or butter when baking - not going to chance the sticking mess. I also am not emarrassed to say that I soak my Tempations baking dishes/casseroles/muffin and pie dishes etc. over night in the sink with hot water and dish soap for a really easy clean up.

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I don't have any TT yet (ordered first set today) - but I do have a piece of Paula Deen stoneware and I really have no problems with sticking. I've cooked mostly casseroles and lasagna in it - things that would normally stick. Now don't get me wrong a few things might stick here and there but they clean up extremely easy when they do stick - nothing like trying to clean up a glass pan where things are sticking and do not come off! I imagine TT is very similar. Actually that PD stoneware lasagna pan is what made me want to buy Temptations because I loved how well it worked and how easy it was to clean.

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I do use some spray on TT when it is a baking item. To cook a vegetable, bake chicken or a meat loaf etc. , I usually don't spray and find the dishwasher does a great clean-up. I always put my TT in the dishwasher and very seldom have to clean up a little spot left on the TT. TT cleans much better than my old Corningware or Pyrex.

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I would never bake cornbread without spraying with bakers joy. I noticed Tara had cornbread muffins and she said she didn't use any spray or butter because it was naturally non stick. Mine must be unnatural because if I don't use spray some things stick. Mominohio is right, if it's a casserole or something juicy you don't have to spray but baked goods need spray or butter.

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I'm new to TT; I got my first set for Christmas. I can honestly say that I have never had to use any cooking spray or any added fats. I've cooked Mac-n-cheese, casseroles, meatloaf, and corn muffins-maybe these foods have enough fats in them, but I've so far haven't had to use any added fats

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I spray. I heard DV in one of the presentations with either Tara or a rep say ""virtually non-stick"" and no one corrected him. I think this is more accurate.

Re: Question about foods sticking.

I have tried it both ways and found that not using anything really works for me. The sprays always make it stick for what I'm cooking/baking. If I have to use something then it's a little gravy or some celery sticks on the bottom of the pan. Olive oil will work but you have to watch your oven temp setting. I prefer nothing and that works the best of all for my meals.

There is so much confusion created when Tara states that you don't need anything but then she states to follow what the recipe calls for. This is where I found items sticking. That depends on what you are making. I wish they would spend a few minutes to give some tips on which items really need something else in the dish. What I have found in my baking is that it depends on how much butter and liquid is in the mixture.

Hope this helps.
