Question about a pot luck dessert

I have been on a keto eating plan and I want to bring something that I can enjoy to a community pot luck in a few weeks. I plan to bring a meatball casserole and a Keto flourless chocolate cake for dessert.

My question is. . . the cake is plain, although very rich and decadent, so I was thinking about making a raspberry sauce to pour over it. Should I pour the sauce before I put the cake out, or have it in a dish for self-serving? (I am getting flashbacks of When Harry Met Sally!) It would be easier to pre-pour it and serve it, but I can bring a small bowl and ladle if that would be better. Does anyone NOT like raspberry and chocolate??? I also thought about dusting the top with (sugar free) powdered sugar and/or sliced almonds?

TIA for your thoughts.

Re: Question about a pot luck dessert

Considering allergies and dislikes, I would put the sauce on the side.

I always do the latter to make sure everyone is safe.

Re: Question about a pot luck dessert

Thanks! I think I will also leave off the sliced almonds - why introduce something that doesn't need to be there? I will also put out a card that lists the ingredients (or at least sugar-free, gluren-free and how many net carbs.) Thanks again.

Chocolate lover here but also a fruit avoider. Fruit and nuts on the side would be my suggestion.

Raspberry seeds can aggravate diverticulitis.

Thanks! I do plan to puree/strain the sauce to get rid of the seeds, but will definitely serve on the side.

I agree with the consensus; serve the sauce on the side.  If you pour it on the cake ahead of time, it may make the cake soggy and unappealing.  It will be much better to pour it on each individual piece.

jmo if the cake is already moist & decadent just dust it with powdered sugar before putting out for serving.  You can dress it up with just garnishing it with a few raspberries or sprig of mint on top.  You said you were making a card indicating it's ingredients.

I don't think you need the sauce -- less is more IMO in this case.

sounds yummy🙂🙂

Re: Question about a pot luck dessert

@Lisa now in AZ - Sounds wonderful- both your cake AND your meatball casserole! If I were you I would dust the top of the cake lightly with powdered sugar, and take some raspberry sauce to ladle. That's exactly how I would love to see it if I were attending that pot luck. Have fun!  Smiley Happy

Re: Question about a pot luck dessert

I think I agree with the others and I would put the sauce in a gravy boat type of dish and just let those that want it,  pour it themselves.

It sounds delicious too!!
