Question Please Help...

I have a self cleaning Gas Oven and I don't want to heat up my House. I tried the spray Easy Off safe for Self Cleaning Oven and it works OK. I then tried Bar Keepers Friend and it worked even better. Is there an easier way and what kind of sponge should I use. If you have Gas what do you do to cove the holes so nothing goes down into the Oven? And what is safe to clean the grates with?
