@Kachina624, Would you like to conduct some lessons on how to use the virgin pressure cooker that gets dusted regularly, stared at, with promises that tomorrow is another day and one day soon I will do it. ( Hangs head in shame)Woman Embarassed

me too @Kachina624

DH ordered that waste of space called my VitaMix...so I blame him on that purchase!

While I don't use my IP every day or even week, I do love it!  AND Oh my word!  Hard boiled eggs DO slip out of their shells like you said!

I was so sick of fighting with shells (and yes, I tried every kimmick out there) I stopped making them till I got my IP!

It's funny though...I know 2 ppl who never tried or liked their IP!

@tiny 2    They are amazingly simple.  What kind do you have?  A fun starter would be hard boiled eggs.  You put the eggs on a rack.  If you don't have one, crumple up a sheet of aluminum foil.  Add 1 cup of water, set for 5 minutes by pressing cook 5 times, press start.  You can release the pressure instantly by moving the pressure gauge aside with a fork until it quits hissing, then open.  Or unplug and just let it sit until it cools off some.  Done!

It should not hiss while cooking.  If it does, move the pressure gauge slightly with a fork until it stops.  There's probably a tick mark about where it should be.  Operation should be silent.  IT WILL NOT BLOW UP!

@Kachina624, I am going to try this (in the garage)after I get moved and settled. I have a 6 qt. Instant pot. I gave the 8 qt. to my niece once I realized my cowardice was an issue.( never took it out of the box). She has 3 kids and uses the big one a lot. I am still dusting and determine that I will one day master it.

Yes, I was there spending the week with Grandma helping her when the giant pressure cooker blew up. I was only 8 but it left an impression.Woman Surprised

@tiny 2    The electric ones are much safer because the temperature is controlled.  My mother, then me, used stovetop models for years and never had a mishap.  I still have mine and would use it if I had a new gasket.

@Kachina624, My mom used that type all the time and kept back up gaskets. The thing that grandma was using was huge and she was canning with it. I was helping her pick things from the garden and prepping them. I thought it was great fun. Something went very wrong with that thing. What a mess.

@shoesnbags Sorry I'm not more specific.  Around here cooking is usually sort of just cookin' rather than specific recipes we follow.

@Sooner

Actually,  your description was perfect.  All I really needed to know was how you were doing it (have never tried using rack or basket) and for how long.  Good idea with the vegetables - hubs likes his broccoli well done so I'll try that.  For the couple of years I've had my Instant Pot I've only cooked things in the big pot like soups, stews and beans, so this will be a good way for me to branch out a bit.
