Re: A few years ago I bought the Kitchen-Aid toaster that QVC...

@SharkE,  I know their are those who think SMEG toasters are extragavant.  But. when checking out the 'better made' toasters, I found that they ranged between the $100 and up range.  Yes, your SMEG is at the high-end; but, you're paying for quality!

I have the pink one and love it.  Can't tell you how many toasters I've purchased, then out of frustration, donated it!  The SMEG takes slightly longer to toast, but, I've never had a toaster toast so evenly.  I now have perfectly toasted breads, bagels, english muffins:  no more burnt half burnt/half raw breads.  Totally frustration-free!Woman Very Happy

Anyways, enjoy your purchase!

I don't like seeing the brand name in such big letters across the front.

I  have the mixer, toaster and the kettle.  If Smeg had a food processor I would but that also.  I have always said, If your going to spend the money do it right the first time. I do have the Kitchenaid mixer, but the 5 qt is only 325 watts.  The Smeg is 600.  You can really tell the difference.

Smeg is a new name for me. I’ve never heard of that brand before.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I've always liked the look of the one below...shaped just like toast! The picture is from a blog I follow as I don't own this toaster. Heck, I probably only actually make toast a handful of times a year so I won't be buying the pricier ones. But a girl can look! Ha!!!

I haven’t spent that much for every toaster we’ve owned over the last 45 years!

How long have you had it?  DH has toast every morning and I can't tell you how many toasters he had had that just don't do the job.  The one we have now is the most expensive we have purchased,  50 bucks and it is the worst,

Re: Pretty toaster

[ Edited ]

My picks for a "pretty" toaster:

Oster 2-Slice in in 'Metallic Turquoise'

(also comes in 'Metallic Red')

Sencor Electric Toaster in 'Bright Green'
(also in 7 other cheerful colors)

I always go by the reviews on big ticket items.

Does the product have metal or plastic parts. Is it made by a Company that's been in business a long time and hasn't made their name from yrs ago and has since been sold once or twice.

Watch Youtube videos.  Wgt of the machine. I won't pay for Le Crueset, but, for a mixer I will. Just depends on your own outlook. Lot of people won't pay 445 for a mixer like I did, but, I know it's gonna earn it's keep, is pretty, quiet and smooth operation.

Just have a good feeling about anything that looks like the olden days where people took pride in their work and didn't skimp on quality.

They were happy to have a job and wanted to keep it, now, they just

see what they can get by with throw it together and if nobody catches

it's defective no hair off their head.

Old saying where I come from when something breaks down "It was made on a Friday".  You see UPS men pitching stuff over backyard fences not caring it's somebody's brand new pc. Porch pirates stealing

other people's goods off their porches.Gradual society changes and not for the good.
