I've had 2 electric pressure cookers and both clearly state they are NOT pressure canners.

@RedTop Thank you.  I really don't know the difference between pressure canning and steam canning.  I just remember there being warnings about using electric pressure cookers for canning purposes.  It's not something I would be doing anyways.

The Instant Pot Max does have a Canning setting which can be confusing.

@We rescue cats.  Othe brands of PCs are also set it and forget it.  You may be thinking off the stove top models which did require watching, but there are other electric brands too and they are multifunctional.

I had a Cooks Essentials model that worked just like the Instant Pot but was a lot prettier, in turquoise.  Unfortunately, I wore it out.  It had multiple functions.  Electrics are a joy to use after the stove model which I used for 50+ years.

We always used a pressure cooker until it gave up.  I think an Instant Pot cooks much quicker and can do more with it, like hard boil eggs and not sure what else.  Just inherited one and have no clue but my daughter has one and uses it and says she could use more but doesn't.

I will be playing around with it.

Yep--just a brand name for a pressure cooker. I learned on a Presto stove top P/C when I was about 10. But have to say the electric ones are 1000x better, and more things you can do in them. Been using my Instant Pot for nearly 10 years or more now. Have a 6qt and a 3 qt.

If you have an electronic pressure cooker, you set it and forget it as well.  Only the old style pressure cookers with a rocker on top need to be watched.

Love, love, love my Instant Pot and the 100+ pressure cooking cookbooks I have purchased. My Instant Pot has changed the way I cook.

I would think that most electric pressure cookers are set it and forget it. You set the time and once it's finished doing it's job it shuts off.
