Prepology Color Changing Cooking Thermometer on stove-top or stove-top grill?

Or does it actually have to be IN the oven? I would think you could use it on the stove top as long as you keep any part of the probe or cord off the pan or stove itself. Or what about a slowcooker? Is any of this mentioned in the instructions?
