When we were kids and got sick, my mom always fed us fruit. Probably should have been saltines or toast, but what can you do?
Fruits often have too much acid for a kid who's been barfing for the past few days.
I can't tell you how many times I upchucked cantaloupe as a kid. I can't even stand the smell of it now.

I have sent dishes back that had a pickle "added" when I expressly said NO pickles.
However, I love carmelized onions but not onions per se.

Liver, curry, lima beans
Growing up we had liver every two weeks in smothered onions (my father loved it). Can still smell it cooking -- yuck. Anyhow, I HATED it, the smell and texture. I would put a few pieces in my mouth, load the rest of my mouth with mashed potatoes then go to the bathroom and spit it out.
