Re: Pecan Pie…I don’t usually comment

Again I must be weird in the food dept as well as the clothing.

Pecan pie is my very favorite.  I thought her pie looked yummy but I agree with the price being way to much, which is the norm for QVC food.

I don't make pies but pumpkin pie and husband always made the pies. I won't be spending that much for a pie and we have some good shops around her that bakes pies.  I can't tell you the price because I have not gotten one for ages.  I can't imagine the Q pies are any better than what I can get around here.

@Etoile308  Do you have favorite vendors on Gold Belly?

@deepwaterdotter Thank you!  He is my blessing of my life!  Sweetest, smartest and easy to look at and mine more than 50 years!  I think his apple pies are best!

The price includes shipping in a styrofoam container and dry ice in addition to mailing fees. Factor that in.

Exactly.  But I think it would be more honest if QVC would say that S&H is INCLUDED (like they used to), rather than claiming that S&H is FREE, which isn't quite true.

I love pecan pie. It has so much sugar in it I doubt I could eat a piece of it now. Maybe a bite.

It is really easy to make. Just don't try to mix it too fast it gets air in it. The pie doesn't look very good when that happens.

I couldn't figure out why my pie was doing that all the sudden. After some research I found I mixed it too fast so the air caused it. I was trying to get stuff done faster.

There's no way I would pay $50 for it when I can make it myself.

This has nothing to do with the QVC offering, but the other day I saw a short article about regional pronunciations, and "pecan" was one of the examples.

In some areas, people pronounce it  PEE-can.

In other regions, it is pronounced Pe-KAHN.

I went sugar free this yr.   This pie would set me back a yr and blood sugar would be 100 LOL

Looks great though.

I buy a lot of online food as gifts.

I admit my own aesthetic preference to the pecan halves. I think to me it makes for a more pleasing looking pie, and I like biting into the nut and tasting pecan. I also think chopping the nuts releases their oil into the pie.

@ellephant, I agree the filling did not look set and was running. Being under the lights shouldn't have affected it if the pie had actually set. Usually it caused by not being cooked enough, or was it a change in standard ingredients? Were enough eggs used, or was it a combination with something like cornstarch? Butter or some type of oil?

There's no way to know since none of the nutritional information was available, which is unusual.

@Tissyanne, there are less expensive options out there from established bakeries. Three Brothers Bakery sell four versions of a pecan pie: salted caramel, chocolate chip bourbon, chocolate fudge pecan, and basic original pecan pie. They run $49 and include shipping.

Don't know if customers who bought from Collin Street Bakery, known for their fruitcakes, also realize they sell other pies and cakes. Their pecan pie is $29 and shipping for one is $10.

Heck, even Nuts dot com has had pecan pies around the holidays, can't remember if they were $25 or $29.

Re: Pecan Pie…I don’t usually comment

@cindyNC, I have a lot of of favorite vendors in different categories on Goldbelly.

If you're interested in desserts there's Little Pie Company and some of the pies from Royer's Round Top Cafe. I like the Flour Bakery for their Sticky Buns, and Chef Adrianne Calvo for the giant Cinnamon Rolls, and Blue Owl Bakery for their Lemon Cream Cake

But I never buy from Goldbelly unless there's a sale. Their prices have increased dramatically over the past few years. But what's nice during sales is that usually there are several months where you can chose a shipping date. Everything I've sent as gifts has been arrived in great shape and on the day requested.

And with any mail order gifts from any vendor I'm interested in, I wait and check websites and Facebook during Black Friday weekend for free shipping or percentage off deals.
