Re: Paying More For Groceries?

I load digital and use manufacturer coupons that I print from coupons dot com.

New coupons appear every so often. Our Giant store has a good reward system.

Apply points for gas but I usually apply them for free items in store and that

changes from week to week.

I just saw recently that soon Dollar Tree is going up from $1.25 to $1.50. I

only shop there once in a while.

Re: Paying More For Groceries?

@gardenman The only time I go grocery shopping in South Jersey is when I am in Ocean City, NJ. And there is only Acme markets. We often wondered why there is only Acme.

Yesterday I went to our local Acme. I could not believe what great deals I got. Dietz and Watson turkey was about 1/2 price of what I paid at Shop Rite with the For U coupon. And the eggs - 30 for $6.99, they were cheaper than what I have been paying at Sam's Club. And Fresh Express Salads were $2.49. I had been paying $7.99 for 2 at Costco for salads.

I am so glad I joined For U. It is well worth it.

@threecees Thanks for mentioning that. I just discovered that they carry Wiley Wallaby Licorice.

Will have to go back and buy a few more packages.

Re: Paying More For Groceries?

I stopped drinking colas when I discovered I loved cold brew coffee.  My Starbucks ready to drink bottles are still (just barely) under $6 ($5.98).  I've been telling myself I'll stop when they reach $6/bottle.  Rut ro Smiley Surprised

Re: Paying More For Groceries?

@Carmie

😲

We've cut back on eating out too, mostly because DH has retired and because to get to nice restaurants is over an hour away.  We used to drive to Dallas (two hours) to eat dinner and spend $100 Smiley Surprised  I can't believe we used to do that!  Neither could my parents.  Now I'm shaking my head when our daughter makes a trip to Dallas just for dinner.  I'm sure the bill is closer to $200 now in those kinds of restaurants.  The all-you-can-eat food bar we eat at a couple times a month is $42 for both of us, plus tip.  It includes a salad bar, 3 food bars and a dessert bar.

Acme's "normal" prices are high, but using the "For You" coupons, and shopping their sales can stretch the savings out in a big, big way. A 2 liter bottle of their diet ginger ale for $0.94. Three 2-liter bottles of Zero Sugar  Coke for $1.76 total (about $0.59 per bottle.)  $2.65 for a pound of butter. $3.69 for a pound of bacon. I don't think you can find better pricing anywhere. You just have to be a smart consumer. If you don't shop their sales or use the "For You" coupons, you'll pay more than elsewhere, but if you take advantage of what they give you, you can come out ahead. They paid me a penny to buy a pound of bacon a few months ago after the coupons were totaled.

I go through their new "For You" offerings each Friday when they come out and pick which ones I want. It probably takes me twenty to thirty minutes to go through everything including their sale ads, but I save so much that it's worthwhile.

Re: Paying More For Groceries?

All I can say @gardenman is WOW! OH! WOW!

I am shocked  I thought I looked over the For U coupons. I am impressed looking at your list and I congratulate you for doing such a good job.

I did not see the butter coupon. I haven't seen that price in years for butter.

And Coke, 3 - 2 liter bottles for $1.76. That makes me want to drink soda during this hot summer.

Thanks for showing what you were able to buy. I am impressed. And now I should look a bit more at the coupons. They are  treasure trove of goodies. Thank you.
