  • CLOSED: Paula Deen and her sons have permanently shut down their iconic Savannah restaurant, The Lady & Sons, which launched the Food Network star.

End of an era in Savannah?

I really like many of her recipes, but the recipes I like are not low carb/fat/calorie. I save them for holidays.

I can imagine the whole family has moved on from the original concept of Lady and Sons. Best wishes to the employees, but I'm sure they saw this coming.

When we ate at their restaurant, there was a line outside the restaurant. We were waiting for our appointed time for seating.

Wonder what happened. It  is tough running a restaurant. I know I could not do it.

I read the article yesterday, and mentions not all the restaurants are closing four are remaining open for business located in several states. Probably only in very popular areas.

She also owns 4 restaurants under the name "Family Kitchen".

I've never followed her closely, but it seems she had an extremely rapid decline.  Poor business decisions, perhaps?

Deen is 78 years old and still has four restaurants scattered throughout the south that she and her sons visit regularly. Lady and Sons was open for 36 years, a virtual lifetime for a restaurant. Although SHQ could not afford her the level of visibility she enjoyed on QVC, for years after she was booted by QVC she appeared on HQ, which made her into a bit of a lifestyle brand, selling all manner of merchandise, much as QVC has done with Gravel. Between her books, restaurants, TV gigs and so on, she had a pretty good run.

The ones staying open are in Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach, Branson and Nashville.

Years ago, we ate at the Piegon Forge restaurant for breakfast.  It was delicious.  I did not realize there was one in Myrtle Beach.

@Kachina624 - she caught flack for making some untimely insensitive comments and racial slurs at one time.  I don't think she ever fully recovered.
