Paper towel holder

I bought a Temptations paper towel holder few yrs. ago ,now, I see they don't have them anymore. When I did a search all I came up with was 75.00 ones.

I was wanting to watch the video on it, but, looks like that's out. Is there a special knack of putting the roll of towels over that base? mine doesn't tear as easy as it was shown on tv that made me buy it in the first place. I must be doing something wrong.
