PLEASE help!! Anyone have Cook's Essentials 4qt pressure cooker???

I need help please...I just received this a couple days ago and I'm using it today. I have my beef roast in and I cannot get the timer to start. No idea what I'm doing wrong. It's counting down...but the roast needs to be in for 40 minutes and I can't set the time??? Any help is appreciated..thank you!!
