I'd like a recommendation for a "pasta pot". I'd like the type where you can take the strainer insert 1/2 way out and lean it against the rim of the pot to remove the pasta leaving the good starchy water behind to add to sauces.

The pot I have now has holes in the lid to strain the water into the sink.

I've seen what I'm looking for on Italian cooking shows, but they never give the brand. TIA.

If you google what you want you will find exactly what you are looking for and the price you are willing to spend on this item.

There's a bunch of them on Amazon.  Maybe you'll find one on the Prime Days Sale.  Some sets come with a short basket also include that would be handy for steaming.

I got one as part of a Wolfgang Puck set years ago.  TBH, I didn't like using the insert in the pot.  It came with two inserts, a full-size and a half-size.  I just use the half-sized one to drain my pasta.  The half-sized insert is probably meant for steaming which I never do.

Actually, if I remember, I just use the Fasta Pasta now.  Uses less water and you don't have to wait for the pt to come to a boil.

I have an 8 qt. All clad like that and never use it.  It is hard to wrestle out of the pot (taller pot) and you have to have it in the sink, then where do you put the outer pot etc.

I love my All Clad strainer pot with the holes in the locking lid!  I use it to wash and drain lettuce and other things, pasta etc.  Then you don't have that dripping hot inner liner to deal with.  Just a thought.

@Shanus  I have the All Clad strainer/steamer pot. My son gave it to me many years ago. It's only a 6 qt., but it still works for one box of pasta. I use it for that, but I also use if for steaming hard boiled eggs. Works great, and looks brand new.

@Shanus   I concur with @PA Mom-mom  I have the 8 quart All Clad (purchased in 2017 during a good Sur la Table online sale)  instead of the 6 quart and it is one of my most used pots.  I leave it out on the left back burner on my stove top since I use it so often.

@aroc3435  I agree with you, an 8 qt. pot is a better size. I didn't want to insult my son, so I have made do with the 6 qt., and it works for the most part.

Don't know size of my All Clad, but it has full size insert with holes to remove pasta.  Frankly I usually am using this pot to cook my spaghetti sauce because its tall and has even cooking on slow.

@PA Mom-mom   Nice to have a son that would provide you with such a nice gift!

Hope your holiday weekend was pleasant.

I've started planning Thanksgiving, as I seem to recall start this much earlier than many others do.

I won't be online here for a while--many Grandma tasks/sitting for several days, which--of course--I don't mind!  Just ordered a new witch hat for my decades and decades tradition of wearing a witch costume.

Best,
