Re: Over the Range Microwave

When I moved into my condo 31 years ago, I had a GE over the range microwave that was already getting along in years. The couple I purchased from had all the manuals and purchase records for all the appliances. Finally 5+ years ago (time flies, probably more like 10), the main element failed and I had to replace it. All my other appliances are Bosch, but I decided to stick with GE. The new one is not as solid-feeling as the old one, but is substantially the same and I have had no problems with it. The stove in my condo when I bought it was also GE. It lasted 25 years, but when the auto cleaning feature stopped working, I replaced it with a Bosch.

Re: Over the Range Microwave

I've always had over the range microwaves, but now that I'm a senior I struggle to remove cooked food because of the height. I'm barely 5'2" and removing hot food is a real safety risk. I want to replace mine with a counter top model but I have very limited counter space in my small kitchen and then my handyman would have to come up with some way to camouflage the area where the micro sat above the range. I'd also lose the vent to the outside feature.

Re: Over the Range Microwave

I learned that if you open the door to the microwave, before the time is up

it damages the "sensor" thing in the door, circuit board?

You are supposed to wait for the cycle to end, then open.

I never knew that.

Repairman taught that.

Most difficult part of this is teaching impatient husbands,

don't open door!

Re: Over the Range Microwave

When I had my kitchen remodeled 2 years ago we moved my microwave into my walk-in pantry. Best thing we ever did. It was such an eyesore over the range. I now have a lovely 48" stove with a gorgeous hood over it. Stunning!

Re: Over the Range Microwave

We bought a Whirlpool low profile microwave when we remodeled the kitchen.

Re: Over the Range Microwave

We removed our over the range microwave some years ago and put it into our island as a drawer microwave.  Best thing I could have done.
