When my daughter went away to college she wanted a toaster oven, good for toasting bagels and frozen pizza, a single cup Keurig and lifts for the bed frame so she could store stuff under her bed. Got them at BBB. She also wanted a cork board to hang some of her pictures. As someone else said a good mattress pad is a must.

It may be wise for her granddaughter to check what is allowed. My daughter was not allowed anything with a heating element, even a toaster. She hid it in her closet.

Please don't get stuff for her room unless you KNOW she wants it. Those rooms are usually not very big and it is hard to find places for things. Especially BIG things. I will bet she needs money way more than stuff. You don't need many things at college but boy it is expensive to live.

Maybe along the same lines. For every holiday I send my granddaughters a box of " things" in the color of the holiday. Halloween ....orange slices, orange shirt, orange body wash with orange puff, corn candy, even orange bikinis. They so look forward to receiving these gifts and I so enjoy shopping for them.t

Ditto for our daughters. When I was in college years ago, we routinely popped corn and heated things up in our dorm rooms, but many schools no longer allow in-room cooking appliances because of the fire hazard -- and probably the mess.

Re: Off topic,but need help!!!

My niece left for college last year. The mattress was awful. Her dad bought a mattress topper and it made a big difference. One of those memory foam items. They sent it via BBB. I agree with the back supporter pillow and something you can rest her laptop when in bed. French press with coffee or Keurig personal brewer. Pretty toiletries that smell great are always welcomed. She's got to showered, right. Box of her favorite foods. Some home made cookies, gourmet popcorn and chocolate (may melt though), jelly beans, individually wrapped biscotti. Rooms are small and don't send an item that may take up space that she can't use or want. Check with her.
