What do those green smoothies taste like? Do you have to force yourself to swallow them? They just look dreadful to me, and I love veggies.

radimage, if you belong to Costco, they have a huge bag of "power greens" for $4. Its got kale, spinach and chard, enough to last for two weeks. Add in some frozen fruit and its delicious. I am sleeping better and lost my desire for ice cream, etc.

Hey thanks! Great tip. There's a CostCo right down the way from me.

ilovedaisies, if you have a juice bar in town, try one first! Whole Foods has one, for example. The taste will depend on what you put in but the fruit will usually dominate.

I invested in a VitaMix. I use it twice a day everyday. It is worth every penny to me!

So far I've used kale, or spinach, or a combo of collard greens and mustard greens - the worst. It doesn't matter what kind or how much fruit I put in...OMG I have to choke it down. I think my Nutribullet is getting close to being used solely for margaritas.

Hey...personally I say start out with at least 70-80% fruit and about 20-30% greens. Baby spinach is VERY mild, almost no taste and slightly sweet. Other than the green color, you won't even know that it's there. If you are just starting, use just a bit of the mildest greens you can find...on the fruit side, bananas make a great addition. Fewer and simpler items will keep you from getting a brown nasty mess! I'll bet in no time you'll find that smoothies heavy on the fruit are TOO sweet. You'll want to cut back on the fruit, increasing your greens and various veggies. I like my drinks thin, so I add lots of water/ice, almond milk or even skim milk. My absolute favorite is a cup of frozen pineapple and a wad of cilantro, blended with some water. I then mix it with more water to make 1 - 1.5 L of beverage. I can then drink on that all day. Also checkout Green Smoothie Habit on YouTube...she has lots of green smoothie videos. Enjoy!

Best way to cover the ""green"" flavor is pineapple.

Mustard greens, YUCK! I learned that one the hard way. I later read somewhere that mustard is not a good choice for smoothies. Wish I had read that first :-)

If made right they taste a lot better than they look.
