Nothing fancy - one that is easy to use.
Thanks.

I am in the market for a meat thermometer, too.
I have been looking at the ThermoWorks site: http://www.thermoworks.com/Meat-Poultry-Fish
Prices vary on their products, from $19 +
I may order the Thermapen Mk4.

The ones they sell at your local DOLLAR STORE! ![]()

In my experience they all seem to work just as well as any other.
Heck, for the infrequent times I need such a thing, I've just been using an old candy thermometer that I've had for eons. ![]()

A leave in one? One with a probe and remote read out? An instant read?
They don't all work the same. I've had some crappy ones. I love my Thermoworks thermometers. I have their thermapen ( which is an instant read, not a leave in) and their ChefAlarm which has a probe and remote read out. Love both.
Do not by Thermoworks products on Amazon though, as they are not an authorized seller and there have been issues with fakes. They have their own website and fast shipping.

Thanks everyone. I am looking for an instant read. I will go with Thermoworks based on your recommendations. Will buy from their site and not from Amazon.

The Thermapen is expensive at close to 100 dollars but I've had mine for probably 8 years and use it all the time. No issues. They do have a cheaper one, that is just slightly slower reading the temp and it's call thermapop. @twinsister

I have two that I like. One is the Polder digital. It has a probe and a wire that allows you to put the display outside of the oven. The closed door doesn't interfere with the wire. You can set your desired temp. and it will sound the alarm when it reaches it. I used it for prime rib, and it worked very well. We also use it sometimes for smoking. The other one is an instant read Polder that folds shut. It has suggested readings for various types of meat. We love it for hearth cooking and quick checks on the smoker and grill. I use it VERY often.

@jaxs mom - Thanks. I got the cheaper one. Just got an e-mail that it has shipped already!
