Need advice on dinnerware

This Christmas is the first time I will be serving dinner to more people than I have dinnerware. There will be 18 of us. I don't have enough flatware, either.

I have never been a big fan of paper plates for a holiday meal but, I may have to compromise this year. Do you have a favorite brand that will stand up to a beef tenderloin dinner with all the "fixins"?

I am also considering renting both the flatware and dinnerware. Any suggestions?
