I've tried Better Than, and to be honest I hate the taste of it, as well as the texture. no matter how it is mixed.  I try it again about once a year, but end up tossing it every time.

it is absolutely my most favorite bouillon that i have ever tasted......second only to my own homemade stocks or broth. i always have the beef, chicken, ham, and vegetable on hand. i first began using it when it was featured on the qvc 50/50 tour and now i either buy it from the grocery store or from amazon.

My recipe calls for 8 ounces beef broth...according to the better than bouillon jar is says to dissolve 1t  in 8 oz of boiling water, and for every quart of stock needed use 1.5 T.

Question:   does that mean if I only want to use 1.5T of the better than bouillon that I prepared using 8oz. of water?  Thanks!

I have not used this product before...

This is accurate.

Use 1 teaspoon for 8 ounces (1 cup) of water.

Use 1.5 Tablespoons for 32 ounces (4 cups) of water.

This is correct, because a Tablespoon has 3 teaspoons in it.

So, for 4 cups (a quart) of water, you would need 4 teaspoons of BTB. 4 teaspoons is very close to 1.5 Tablespoons.

I really love Better Than Bouillon. It's a hassle to open a can of beef or chicken broth and only use a small amount, having to freeze the rest. Better Than Bouillon solves that problem. Plus, I think it tastes better.

@peachesncream...thank you so much for that explanation...now it makes sense!

I did follow the directions on the jar.....soup tasted great.  I did leave out any extra salt the recipe called for as others indicated the bouillon was salty.

I'm glad your soup was a success!

I appreciated the reminder to omit or reduce salt when using Better Than Bouillon. I haven't been doing that and I really should!

Re: Need advice better than bouillon

I looked for this brand after it was rated very high (I believe winner) on ATK. Since I tend to go less salty, 1/2 t for every 8 ounces is how I like it.

For those who don't like BTB, you might want to try Penzeys. They have an online site. I love all their products.

Better Than Bouillon is VERY salty. You might want to taste test.

This is what I find. I usually use probably half of what is called for. I can't be specific, because I really do not measure, but for me, I use roughly 1/2 to 1 teaspoon for a very large pot of water (like 2 -to 3 quarts of water). I find with the seasonings and veggies and whatever else goes in, basically using roughly a smidge of Better than Bouillon is plenty. But yes, taste test, for sure. You can always add more, but you can't really remove it.

I have both Better Than Bouillon and the Penzey's brand. I like to make my own stocks and broths and store in the freezer, but when I don't have anything, either of the two brands will work well.

Such a Penzey girl I am.

Re: Need advice better than bouillon

I was thumbing through a couple of old Cook's Illustrated magazines the other day and BTB was rated first.  Unfortunately they don't seem to include Penzey's in any of their ratings, but I only read this magazine sporadically from the library, so maybe someone has clued them in by now. Don't taste the BTB straight from the jar, however, you will hate it, no matter what the flavor is.  I did that once and threw out the jar.
