I've been looking for a food type gift to send to someone in another state. I'd prefer fruit or maybe cookies (not candy). Does anyone have a site that they have used satisfactorily? I looked at Edibles. come and they are very expensive. I'd be willing to pay more if they are really good. I've tried things like Hickory Farms in the past and have been very disappointed. QVC has some interesting fruit or custard filled waffles. Has anyone tried those? All suggestions welcome.

I just ordered from Pittman & Davis based on rave reviews from everyone who has used them, plus Free s/h.
I ordered the Signature Caramel Apple Cake Coffee Cake (under pastries category) for 4 friends up north. They were $26.00/each. Sorry don't know how to copy link.
2 of my friends called me to thank me and told me the coffee cake (bundt size) was absolutely fresh and delicious.

i highly recommend pittman and davis. i have ordered their fruits, their dried fruit and nut trays. we LOVE their comice pears. i usually order about 8 boxes to give out as gifts. now those we have given them to expect them each year. i have ordered one box for ourselves and they were delicious. i need to order another. i also love their oranges and the ruby red grapefruits.
their free shipping for the month of december ends soon, but every month they have free shipping for part of the month.

Harry & David pears are delicous! I've bought them from H&D before, and Trader Joe's has them right now. I just bought some, and they are so much better than what you can usually buy at the grocery store.
Would they like a fruitcake? I just ordered one from Collin Street Bakery based on recommendations on this board.

Just received the pears from Q, by Harry and David, and they are very good.
We love the My Grandma's coffee cakes from here as well. Their original is the best, cinnamon walnut. I would recommend getting one in a tin, as they seem to travel better. We once got one without a tin, and it didn't make the trip too well, but the ones in tins, never a problem.
We are big fans of the Mrs. Prindables apples (Pink Lady variety) as well. And they keep longer than one might think.
And while I think too expensive, the Juniors cheesecakes are good as well.

I was the recipient of chocolate covered strawberries from Edible Arrangements last month. They kept forever in the refrigerator and were delicious. Thumbs up from the receiver for this one if you do want to splurge.

(Unfortunately, I've had Harry & David's pears and found them lacking. They were mealy. The only thing I've purchased from them that was outstanding was their baklava).
I've been quite satisfied on those few occasions when I've ordered from Wms Sonoma and the Neiman Marcus Epicurious Department at their store in San Francisco. Few NM stores have such departments. They only sell what they have in the store, but it's all fabulous and they ship anywhere.

I have previously sent gifts from Wolfermans. They have delicious english muffins in many flavors. I have sent breakfast gift baskets which are a nice change from all the candy and sweets at this time of year.

I've used Wolfermann's and Harry & David. I've had good luck with both of them. Harry & David is more expensive depending on the fruit. I just received my cheese and meat assortment from Echo Valley and love it. I ordered that on QVC and it wasn't too expensive for that category. It was packed very well which I really liked. That would be my first choice if it's still available. My second choice would be Wolfermann's.
