Re: My dishwasher lasted 17 years

Our KitchenAid served us well for 30 years.  Not sure what I'll replace it with.

Re: My dishwasher lasted 17 years

My house was built in 1984,  and I'm still using the builder's model GE dishwasher.   These days I mostly wash by hand since there's just me.   I've had Kitchenaids and Maytags but this is the best dishwasher I've owned.

I think I have you all beat!  My dishwasher (ME!) is older than all of them!   Woman LOL

(Seriously - I prefer doing dishes by hand.  I had a dishwasher in the last house I owned, and never used it.)

Re: My dishwasher lasted 17 years

@clangle   We had a Sears dishwasher for years and it was the noisiest.  It drove me crazy.  We would turn it off if the phone rang because you couldn't hear.  When we remodeled the kitchen about 9 years ago, I chose a Bosch....good reviews and QUIET.  Haven't been disappointed.

Re: My dishwasher lasted 17 years

Had to replace my washer and dryer this week.  After reading CR reviews and reading consumer feedback, I chose a Kenmore set....top loader w/o the agitator.  Wish me luck as our last set lasted many years.

Regarding the reliablily of GE, well, times have changed.  My mother bought a beautiful GE refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom in 1957...unheard of, huh?  She finally had to replace it in 2006!  It was always the prime refrigerator in the home.  Now that was reliability!  Just a fun refrig....It had a screw-like post that allowed shelves to be adjusted up and down, and the shelves spun out so you could bring items from the back right out front and then turn them back.

I'm right there with you!!

I hate dishwashers..they're unnecessary IMO.

.waste of storage space, noisy, leaky, stinky, cant put everything in them (not dishwasher safe), take forever to do a load and then having to empty them afterwards...(the only plus, is they hide the dirty dishes)..  Faster and easier to do by hand..In fact,I'm having the one I have now taken out and replaced with cabinet drawers in the near future.  Cannot wait!

Hope everyone has a happy thanksgiving!!

Re: My dishwasher lasted 17 years

this subject had me thinking about how old my stuff is and it's pretty much right up there at around 15 years  or more. Bought the dw, stove, and refer in the late 90's, early 2000. Just replaced my washer and dryer ; the old ones lasted nearly 20 or so. How I would LOVE new kitchen appliances tho. My new w/d are the bomb!! And they are mid priced ones as I don't use the bells and whistles, just basics. Still so much nicer. Am jonesing for a new sink and faucet now.

Re: My dishwasher lasted 17 years

Just a heads up. Kenmore appliances are made by a variety of sources. You can tell who made it by looking at the first three numbers on the metal ID tag on the appliance. Here's a link to a site that guides you on how to find out who made your Kenmore appliance.

http://www.appliance411.com/purchase/sears.shtml

There is no Kenmore factory out there churning out Kenmore appliances. They're made by other companies like Whirlpool, Samsung, Amana, etc. Those first three numbers on the tag identifies the maker.
