My Favorite Pressure Cookers

First of all, I am old. Second, I Iove to cook and I love kitchen stuff.  Long post to follow:

My first pressure cooker was a Presto with the bobbly thing on top.  It was sort of scary.  Then I got an electric ******or and it was better but still difficult to get closed and adjusted.

So I bought a Cuisinart, which actually might have been worse than the ******or.  It was a real pain to get it closed and locked right.  During that time I also had an oval one from QVC that I absolutely hated because it was so big and heavy.   Got rid of it in a hurry!

I found a Fissler 6 qt deeper and 2.5 qt skillet like stovetop set on sale and used them quite a bit until I got the Instant Pot one--which is by far better than any other electric one I ever had and we use it pretty often--a lot for sweet potatoes.

We now use the 6-qt. Fissler on an induction burner for beans.  They come out just perfect!  We can quick soak them, then after that finish them because the burner heats the cooker to pressure rapidly and keeps it at a low temperature without fiddling with the gas stove where setting the heat is problematic.

I just thought I would toss that out for people thinking about pressure cookers, and say that the induction burner and the stovetop Fisslers are a great combination!

You may agree or disagree, but I'm sure any input would be appreciated by those interested in pressure cookers.

Re: My Favorite Pressure Cookers

The new electric pressure cookers are easy and peaceful, but getting to cooking pressure and then lowering it to release takes a long time.

The old stovetop ones were much faster, but you had to have a drink before and after cooking.

Re: My Favorite Pressure Cookers

I guess I don't understand why OP isn't posting the full name of the 2nd PC.  I have no idea what the brand might be.

I'm really not a pressure cooker person.  I have the Cooks Essentials mini one and almost exclusively use it for hard boiled eggs.  You can't get replacement gaskets for it, and I can't stand the smell that develops in the gasket after cooking savory items, so it just sits there.  Most of the items I see cooked in them in presentations arent's what I like to eat anyways.  I'm not much of a soup eater, and I don't like my meat and veggies all cooked together in the same pot because they end up all tasting the same.

I am afraid of the old fashioned ones with the jiggler on top.

@Icegoddess

I think the **** was added by the Q censor. There are certain words/letters they won't let you spell out. Example... I was trying to name a sporting goods store and they put those **** where the name would go. Not sure if this will work, but I was trying to name d  i  c  k  '  s sporting goods.

I have no idea the name of the food pressure that was censored.

@kate2357 Well that's odd when it's part of a word.  I could get it if it was an abbreviation or just the standalone word.  I think there is a kitchen brand that begins with the abbreviation I use for Find a Grave, so maybe that's it.  It's funny, I use that abbreviation in my records, but can't in the Facebook group for users.  They prefer FG.  I'm not going back and changing all my records just because it might offend someone.

[ Edited ]

I have a Cuisinart & one from Q. I liked the oval 8 qt I bought from Q years ago. It finally quit working.

Electric pressure cookers range from 9-12 psi while stovetop should be 15 psi. Stovetop should work the best.

@Icegoddess Because it thought the brand beginning with an F and then having A gor in it was a dirty word.  I didn't think about that.

Re: My Favorite Pressure Cookers

I still have the QVC Oval Cook's Essentials pressure cooker which was a TSV back in the day.  It still works great and I love the oval shape when doing meats that need the extra oval length of the pot.

@SharkE Most of them are too heavy and bulky for me.  Wimp?  Perhaps!  LOL!!
