I love my Corelle for every day..I have the Chutney pattern  The cups are now ceramic, so you don't feel like you are drinking out of a glass cup.

I've never been attracted to any Corelle dishes. They just look so cheap IMO. I've owned Mikasa and have loved it. Got a complete set for my wedding back in 1978 and still have them with none broken yet. I can dress them up (for holidays) or use them daily. My vote is for Makasa.

I have my mother's Corelle Abundance set, which was bought in the early 90's & I like that it's lightweight & thin enough that I can stack a lot in my cupboards, where my old stoneware was thick & heavy & chipped easily.  I've only had one lunch sized plate break in the microwave.

Re: Mikasa or Corelle?

We have Mikasa French Countryside (for 20 years). I love them. White goes with everything. I use colorful tableclothes for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter. These are good for everday and for company. (I gave away my formal china because it took up so much room and we weren't using it.)

The cereal bowls and soup bowls are big enough to be useful, and the dinner plates are large. You can buy serving pieces. Or buy extra pieces individually.

The dishes don't chip. We've broken a few by dropping them on our tile floors. But there's no chipping even with years of use and dishwashing.

We also have some Fiestaware, for color and variety. But I still love my Mikasa and it's what we use the most.

I think white dishes are a great idea!  You can change up the look of the holiday or seasons depending on accessories & table linens.

I have a discontinued set of Mikasa White Silk bone china.  It's for special occasions not for everyday.  I use Fiestaware dishes for everyday.

Which appeals to you more?  What about cost?

IMO Mikasa is quite a few levels above Corelle.

Mikasa 20 piece frost white dinnerware set is $200 on their website Corelle 20 piece set is < $50. Quite a difference esp. for everyday dishes which sooner or later you will have to purchase some replacement pieces. I have Corelle as my everyday dishes and I am fond of them.My last set of Corelle I received as a wedding gift in 1969, and donated many of the pieces when we moved in 2010.They were still in great shape after 41 years but I was over the avacado green!

Corelle.

I had it for YEARS when my kids were growing up!

My daughter now uses it too, with her two rough house kind of boys!

We both like the solid white - you can mix it up with colored glassware and placemats/tablecloths of your preferred color scheme or texture.

Thanks everyone! I decided to get the Mikasa Antique White. I got 2 sets of the service for 8 and the vegetable bowl, large platter and a serving bowl to start with. (Macy's has great prices.) I like the Antique White because it has cups and saucers rather than mugs. I will add to it later. Now to find a place to store it all!Smiley Wink
