I was also worried about a shortage and ordered over $500 worth of meat from an indepdendent distributor that normally sells to restauarants but due to the economic catastrophe now sells directly to consumers. It wasnt cheap but now I am stocked through summer with a full freezer.  It wasnt worth the gamble when I heard about the pork processing plants experiencing shut downs due to the Virus. If you are willing to pay a little extra you will have no trouble finding restaurant qualirty meats. I try and stay ahead of the curve when it comes to shortages.

@Reever - Meat has a shelf life even in the freezer.  If it is just you at home, you might not get through all that meat before it goes bad.

@qbetzforreal @Reever  I don't see that as a problem.  I think that's a very sensible amount and meat that is well packaged, flash frozen and stored at the proper temp can last a year IF stored and packed well.

I beat the **** hoarders, today, folks.

Place had ribeyes on sale I was there at 7a.m. (stay in bed, hoarders) none out, told the butcher to cut me 6, he did, as usual they had no limit in their ad, so, I jumped in the van and beat out the hoarders this time.  Grabbed a pork roast, too, while I was there.

They will be all gone by end of day . Those 6 will be 3 meals for us.

Man, meat is high, now. I saw a tiny roast for 23 bucks ! ridiculous I wouldn't hoard at this price even if I could afford it !  ROFL

Last trip was worse.  The only thing I memorize the price on is ground meat.  But its pretty easy to notice that a piece of meat that I'm going to make a pot roast from (in the standard smaller size crock pot) is now 17.00 and it used to be less than 10.00.  There are only two of us and an average grocery bill for one week is around $100.00.  Now its running $130.00 to $160.00.  I enjoy shopping, making note of the specials, etc.  Now I'm just happy to get enough ingredients to complete a meal.  Lots of voids.  I saw Kroger soup on the shelf last trip, there is not a Kroger store within 400 miles from here.

I live North of Atlanta, GA.  I just got home from Publix and there was no shortage of meat.  Plenty to be had.  I had gone to Kroger the previous week and meat stock was also good.  Kroger has a limit on what you can buy.  3 beef products and 2 chicken products.  Don't know about pork (I don't buy it).  I do see increases in food prices across the board, not just meat.  On my ride home, a local news channel said grocery prices are up 16%.

What they said on Inside Edition just while ago. Meat is now the new toliet paper gotta have.

At those raised inflated prices they can have my share.

Once it's been on Good Morning America, Inside Edition, people follow like lambs to the slaughter.  Grocery stores are making more money then King Midas. Trickles down to buying another freezer, more money for your electric company, etc.   On and on it goes.

I decided to order a mini weber grill. I hope I can find some meat to cook on it when it gets here!

@SharkE : I live in Georgia. Haven't made it to the commissary. Meat at Publix and Winn Dixie very expensive. Our Fresh Market has ground chuck and bone less, skinless chicken breast for $2.99. Previously no limits on the amount of purchase but the last two weeks the ground chuck not available and chicken limited to 3 pounds. For one week- Walmart was low on meat had limit on purchase but they have restocked, however, still no hand sanitizer or Lysol wipes, cleaning supplies and dish detergent- empty shelves, limits on TP, paper plates, paper towels.
