Not sure where to put this but thought this may be the place since there are a lot of pages. Does anyone use a marker or something to cross out paper labels on boxes or the soft pack plastic bag. How do you protect your privacy on these?

try googling your name. Even on facebook. we have a somewhat uncommon last name. typed my dh's name on facebook. 10 came up with the exact same first and last name. so someone will know your name and where you live. that alone will not give them access to any of your information. remember the phonebook?

I pull the labels off the boxes before recycling. I also use one of those security roller stamps I bought here on QVC for envelopes and anything else I can't peel the label off of like prescription bottles.

I have those rollers/stamp pads that are supposed to make it impossible to read the printing. It seems to work but there are so many newer ways for being a thief these days, I was told that people can 'wash' the ink off and read the info. Not sure what is true and what isn't.

When I receive a box or package from any company I try to remove my name and address label by either tearing it off or cutting it off. I then cut it into little tiny pieces before I put it into my trash.
If that is impossible I take a black magic marker and just cover it. That is always my last resort though. I'd rather destroy the label. I'm always afraid that even with the black marker it might be possible for someone to read my information.

We do tear off or mark out our name and address on the boxes and bags we recycle/toss. It's kind of a pain, but it's what we do because my spouse is almost obsessive about privacy issues. It may not be effective, but it's what he wants and we have been doing it for our entire marriage.
No one in our family has ever posted personal pictures on any social media site....including my spouse's brothers and their family members. When I worked I would not let my company post my picture on line nor would I join FB when the company pushed that site.
I have to say I am happy to not be famous. Lol.

kittylou, yes I remember the phone book but I had an unlisted number, now it's online. No privacy anymore.

I cut or rip off my name and address and put the label(s) in the shredder. It's amazing how many labels there can be on a simple box--at least 2 and sometimes more.

@kate2357 I do shred what I can but the plastic and sticky labels are hard to get rid of. I just tried a black Sharpie wide marker and will see if I can get it off tomorrow.

Nobody "dumpster dives" anymore. The Gov't gives out free cell phones and the internet is wide open!
I even found out that I live with 2 guys!!!Never heard of them but they show up if you Google my name!
