I have tried many brands of MAPLE flavoring for baking....the flavor is just not 'there'...even when I doubled the amount of Maple flavoring I was still disappointed...does anyone have a favorite brand?  thanks.

@Mom2Dogs.  All the maple flavoring I've ever used tastes completely unmaple-like.  I gave up.

Have you tried reducing the total sugars and using real maple syrup?

Fwiw, locally produced maple syrups vary in taste by region, just like local honey.

There are grades of syrup down to dark and very dark. Very dark should only be served to Paul Bunyan on a stack of Kodiak Cakes. 🙃

I use real maple syrup in my baking. Not a flavoring.  Grade A Dark (formerly grade B) is what I use.  Can always taste the rich maple flavor using the Darks.

@Rockycoast Ok...did you have to experiment a lot to figure out the ratio of flavoring vs syrup?

@Mom2Dogs , I agree with you! Honestly, when I made maple icing, I used maple extract as well as pure maple syrup, but I still wanted it maplier!

Even though I use the dark maple syrup, I still use more of the syrup than the flavoring.  Extract is a condensed flavoring. The syrup is more sweet.   So if I was using 1 TBS of syrup i would use half of that in the extract.
