Has anybody made this delicious Red Colored Pork served at Chinese Restaurants?? I made some using a mix that you added water to, add the pork strips, then marinated it overnight in the refrig. The next day put the pork on a rack, bake at 350* for 20 minutes, turnover and cook another 20 minutes. Switch the oven to broil to put a little char on it. Don't burn. It was so good. Now, I'm going to make the sauce homemade. This is my first time using this recipe that I found:
Char Siu Marinade
1/4 c sugar
3 T sherry
2 t soy sauce
1/3 c Hoisin Sauce
1 t minced garlic
1/4 t five-spice powder
1 t salt (or less)
1/8 t red food coloring
Dissolve sugar in sherry and soy sauce. Add the rest of the ingredients. This is enough for 2-3 pounds of pork strips or 3 pounds of spareribs.
We'll see how it goes. Won't be able to eat it until tomorrow!!!
