I seem to recall a big fuss years ago made about MSG and Chinese Restaurant Syndrome. I assumed it had been taken off the market.
I was in the store reading labels recently and noticed that Knorr chicken boullion cubes have salt and MSG as their first ingredients! Huh?
Do you avoid MSG ... or doesn't it matter to you?

it doesnt bother me.
i actually have it, use it, and keep it as part of my spice cupboard. it is known as that UMAMI/savory taste sense.
its "bad for you" rap was pretty much debunked.

It does not bother me but my DH is allergic to it. His hands and face swell up from it.

@Love my grandkids wrote:@Tinkrbl44 How do YOU feel about it?
Actually, I don't "feel" anything about it.
What I "think" is it affects a lot of people negatively and thought it was off the market years ago.
I wouldn't buy foods that have it in their ingredients.

MSG occurs naturally in foods. Tomatoes, parm cheese and mushrooms have MSG in them for example.
It is a natural product.
Some people have had adverse problems with it.....the same as they do with nuts, milk or wheat products.
If you aren't allergic and have no bad reactions from it, it's not a problem to consume it.
It's in many foods we eat every day like canned soups, veggies and deli meats.

My mother would take us to Chinese restaurants when we were younger and I would start holding my head and saying it hurt.
That happened everytime and she didn't know what was happening.
Finally figured out it was the msg.
I used to ask if it was used and yes I think a lot of esp. Chinese restaurants did stop using it.
So a few years ago I was at one again and sure enough immediately started having that hammer headache in both temples
and again it was the msg So it's not nothing for everyone.

It only bothers me in large quantities, such as were used in Asian restaurants back in the 1960's and 1970's. My head would feel like it was in a vise and I would become very flushed. Restaurants got the message and if they use it now it is clearly in moderate quantities. I certainly have no problem with it being for sale.
