Looking for Help.... from anyone that has Cooks Essentials 6qt pressure cooker elec.

Hi everyone. I am using my pressure cooker for the first time. I am making split pea soup. Everything is in the pot and i hit the menu button and went to soup. it showed 26 min. and then nothing happened. i waited for about 10 min and still nothing. i could even open the cover. so then i figured maybe once i hit soup i have to hit start so i did then it showed two backward 7's and a P. and still doesn't seem to be starting to work. What am i doing wrong???
