I have loved L&L. Never thought I'd ever get rid of them. But now I know the dangers of storing foods in plastic and I am slowly getting rid of my huge supply. I am now using only glass.

I loved L&L because if something tipped in the the fridge it didn't spill, especially if we were in the camper and moving. I usually use glass, as mentioned by others I'm trying to rid our kitchen of all the plastic, especially the cheap grocery store plastic and we never reheat in the microwave in it.

But the newer L&L is not the same, tabs break off or the containers don't seal easily.

i think I have one large set of L&L plastic containers.  The largest one is used the most to store chips.  After those, I started buying the glass L&L.  No problems with any of it.  One tab did break off, but that was after I dropped it and it landed on the tab.

I prefer the L&L glass since it is bore silica glass and most others, including Pyrex, are not.  I did find an OXO glassware piece that was bore silica at the BBB closing sale, so maybe all of OXO is also bore silica glass.

I only wash the lids by hand, and I've never put the plastic containers in the dishwasher either.

@wagirl @We are having the same problem with the tabs breaking off! Not the same quality it used to be, we bought a ton of Tupperware at Christmas time, from Amazon. It is expensive but just as high quality today as it was decades ago!

Love my lock n lock! I have many of the glass pieces, but I have tons of the plastic. Never had a piece break on me, but if it's a plastic piece and you put in the microwave, it will  stain. I use lock n lock to store stuff. It does keep stuff fresher, longer. My problem is it grows legs and walks off. Now when I buy it, I buy 2 so I can gift one or when a piece walks off, my set isn't split up.

I have two pieces of L&L that I can no longer use for food.  I suppose I can find a spot in the garage for them.  Both pieces are fairly new.

The first container, I stored individually wrapped Lifesavers in it.  Now the container smells like wintergreen and I can't get that smell out.

My husband, who doesn't have the best sense of smell, put mashed potatoes in it.  I had to throw the potatoes away.  They too, smelled and tasted like wintergreen.

The second container I had small honey wheat pretzel sticks stored in there in our RV.  When we packed up and removed the food for over the winter months, I didn't remove the pretzels when I put the food into my pantry at home.  The pretzels went rancid and the container stinks.

I have tried everything to get that smell out, but nothing works. The pretzels were in there a few months, not years.

I still have a lot of L&L, but won't be buying more for storage of food.  I have their baskets and those I love.  I also like their pie carriers and speciality pieces, but won't be using anymore to store food products in the pantry.

I NEVER use plastics in the microwave.  I only store leftovers in plastics in the fridge.  I also do not unpack every item I purchase to store in a plastic containers.  Silly.  I reuse glass jars from sauces, jellies, etc. and use them to store foods in.  Saves $ and good for environment too.

I have been replacing my plastic ware with Anchor Hocking glass storage for the last couple of years.  Just like glass better than plastic now.  I stopped purchasing Lock and Lock many years ago.  Their quality is no longer what it was. The tabs were breaking off.

Me too!  The Anchor Hocking glass containers are really nice and the covers have seals with no tabs which were always breaking off.
