Re: Lock and Lock egg keeper mold

I keep my eggs in the carton in which they came and have never once seen mold on them or in the carton.

Re: Lock and Lock egg keeper mold

Shouldn't get mold inside the L&L egg keepers. I have two of the 1 dozen size and one 1½ dozen size in the fridge all the time. I get 3 dozen eggs at a time. Since I live alone, my eggs may be in the fridge for a couple of months. Never have any mold. I do wash each container thoroughly when empty, and give a vinegar rinse.

It's also possible that you have a fridge problem with too much moisture. See if you can borrow a small hygrometer to check the humidity inside your refrigerator. They run aboutg $8.

Re: Lock and Lock egg keeper mold

I've kept them in the L&L containers for years (well, not the same eggs for years - ha!) and never had a problem.

I wonder if some people are washing them first, then putting them in there wet. At any rate, just make sure they are dry. The paper towel idea sounds like a good one as long as you are changing it out a lot.

I live in an arid climate, so I imagine that helps also but, as of this date, I've never had them grow mold. They stay fresh a lot longer in the L&L for me, which is something I really appreciate. Eggs gross me out so I only have them on hand when it's either for a specific recipe or for making food for the bird. Often I have to buy more than I can use and I have them on hand for a long time. Fortunately, I can buy them in 6 packs at my store but a lot of times I cannot find a way to use all 6 of them up very quickly.

As for washing - I just wait until I'm using them to wash them. That way they are always dry when stored. Obviously, it is moisture that will turn into mold given the right environment for that.

My husband is the same way about eggs cooked in any way other than scrambled. If I want to make him turn green, all I have to do is mention hard-boiled eggs. {#emotions_dlg.lol}

Hey Suz! I'm the same way with egg salad. OMG - bring that anywhere near me and I'm vomiting immediately. Grossest thing EVER. I used to have a boss (who was a jerk) and he would come in to relieve me sometimes. He would bring 'that' and open it up before I left the shop. Of course, I'd go running to the bathroom. He thought it was funny (jerk!). I finally told him that the next time he did that I would throw up right there and leave it for him to clean up. Fortunately, he heeded my warning. {#emotions_dlg.devil2}
