Good advice here, use it as suggested here. Never slide it, not sure why you would need to do that other than to take it off the heat? But cast iron does stay hot much longer than stainless, they are great pans

Thank you ALL for responding. it shall NOT slide then. I have not used it yet, but I will   go into my first dish with the knowledge of allowing the pan to fully heat and with a sparing application of the same. Makes perfect sense in terms of conductivity.

My thinking is if there is an issue of not picking up the pan, you shouldn't attempt to use this type.  I bought a HUGE cast iron pan on close out from HSN.  Big mistake.  I let it sit too long before trying it out, so I couldn't return it.  It now graces the basement cookware storage, waiting for an opportune time to gift someone with it.  And whatever you do, banish PAM from your kitchen.  No good for any type of cookware.
