Lasagna soup recipe?

DH works in another state and mentioned he had this in a restaurant. I'd never even heard of it. Well, last week I stopped at a little diner type place and there was Lasagna Soup on the menu. It was really good. I asked about it and the cook said she just waited until they had leftover homemade lasagna and mixed it up with tomato juice. What I'm wondering is, can I skip the making the lasagna step and just go right to the soup? Does anyone make this?
